Science is a critical element underpinning biosecurity. It can have an enormous input to
managing risks and uncertainties, and ultimately the effectiveness of any decision.
It can provide key information for many questions and can help determine which questions
should be asked. As well as the Biosecurity Science Strategy, other biosecurity research
programmes that are being funded through the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology
include B3.

New research to develop methods and technologies that will help prevent harmful
organisms invading New Zealand and damaging the country's ecosystems and agricultural
base has received government funding for the next 12 years of about $70 million.
